A Fresh Perspective, Conservative Values

I’m Blair Castro, and I’m running for Gulf Shores City Council, Place 5. I love this city, and I believe we’re at a turning point. Gulf Shores is growing fast, but our leadership has stayed the same for far too long. It’s time for fresh perspectives, term limits, and a new generation of voices willing to speak up for the people who actually live here. I respect the work that’s been done in the past - but I’m not afraid to say it: we’ve still got real issues, and too many on our City Council are ignoring them. I’m not here to play along with the “good ol’ boy” system or tiptoe around the truth. I’m here to fight for locals first: our safety, our roads, our infrastructure, and our way of life.I’m fighting for the following changes:

- Full stop on unchecked growth: I support an immediate halt to new large-scale development—period. No more massive residential or commercial projects should move forward unless and until our infrastructure and public safety are fully funded and capable of keeping up. Other nearby cities have passed moratoriums. We haven’t. Our Council’s silence is dangerous, and we won’t sit by and let this continue.

-Support our police, fire, & EMS, Protect our people: We live in the best city in Alabama—so our public safety departments should reflect the best of Alabama. Our police officers, fire and EMS are already doing an outstanding job, but they deserve even more resources, training, and financial support to keep us safe. I will prioritize keeping crime low and making it clear to predators and criminals: Gulf Shores is NOT the place for you. I want to help create a culture where predators and the criminal element know that they’re not welcome here. They should be afraid to even consider moving to our city.

-Put residents before tourists: Gulf Shores must serve the people who live here, not just the ones who visit. I’ll fight for locals first in every decision we make, from housing and roads to safety and communication. Our economy may be tourism-supported, but our community is resident-built.

-Fix our traffic problems: Our roads are a mess. Traffic is brutal. Light timing is completely broken! Before a single new development gets approved, we need traffic solutions, better planning, and real input from residents. I’ll push for smarter infrastructure that works for the people who actually use it every day.

-Shift the culture with purpose: It’s time to move away from this false idea that everything here is perfect. I want to help build a city that celebrates balance—work, life, service, and safety—with both purpose and accountability. Let’s create a culture that values what really matters….not just one that sips on a margarita and turns a blind eye.

-Open, honest leadership: You’ll never get ignored by me. I will return EVERY call and every email. I will keep open lines of communication between the people and city leadership, and I will carry your concerns directly to the Council and Mayor. Your voice will not be silenced or brushed aside. For too long, the same voices have held the same seats—some for DECADES! I refuse to bury my head in the sand and pretend there are no problems in paradise.

While we have so much to be thankful for, it’s naive to believe there aren’t serious issues that need attention. We can celebrate accomplishments and still acknowledge where we’ve fallen short. We can work with other cities, agencies, and partners to learn what’s working elsewhere and apply best practices right here at home. I’ve been a constituent who felt ignored. I know how that feels. I’m not going to sit back and watch the same group of people hold power just because they always have. This isn’t about who’s lived here the longest or who you’re related to— it’s about who’s willing to do the work. It’s time for change.

It’s time for leadership that reflects the people of Gulf Shores today. I’m ready to serve, ready to speak up, and ready to stand up for our community—because Gulf Shores belongs to all of us.
